Excursions

Visit the famous Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, idyllic Italian-inspired gardens and the UNESCO heritage site of the Galle Fort and discover conservation of nature, an architectural legacy and the wonders of an ancient city.

Turtle Conservation
Turtle Conservation Project, based on the beautiful beach of Kosgoda. Make a nocturnal visit to the beach to witness turtles coming ashore to lay eggs which are being collected for the hatchery. Tanks of the hatchery are used to hold newly-hatched turtles until they are strong enough to be released to the ocean.

Visit Lunuganga
Lunuganga was the life's work of Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka's prestigious and influential architect. Developed over a span of 40 years, exquisite thought was given to every vista, pavilion, courtyard and verandah. Twenty-five acres of Italian inspired gardens with spectacular views across the nearby lake await you at Lunuganga.

City of Galle
Galle is declared a world-heritage site by UNESCO and is located in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. It was founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese and is among the finest example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and South-East Asia, showing the interaction between European architectural styles and South Asian traditions. An expanse of 90 acres of land makes up the historic city of Galle. Go back in time with its near-crumbling architecture of grand old buildings, street names and yet active Dutch churches.

Maduganga
The Manduganga River is a shallow water body in south west Sri Lanka that enters the sea at Balapitiya. Its estuary and mangrove islets make up a complex, coastal wetland ecosystem. It has high ecological, biological and aesthetic significance, and is home to 303 species of plants belonging to 95 families and to 248 species of vertebrate animals. It is also discussed as being one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.
